If you only want to perform a one-time transfer of data, you can do it for free with the trial version of CompanionLink software (companionlink.com). I wanted to transfer my calendar information from my old Palm Treo to my new HTC Droid Eris, via Google. This program worked perfectly. It also transfers Contacts, Tasks, and Memos. If you want to continue to sync your Palm Data, the full program costs $39.95.

I don't think this picture trick works on the new International Kindle 2. I just tried "Alt Z" after loading pics on the device, but nothing happens (from the home screen).

Comment on What’s With Vizio Remote Controls? by Helphand

OK, got a clue here about why the Vizio remote control stops working. Thing is, it doesn't make sense.

I have some Bose speakers that I hook up to my laptop; there are three speakers, two tweeters and one floor woofer. When I connect these up to the laptop and power on the speakers, the Vizio remote stops working. Disconnect the speakers and turn off the power, and the Vizio remote starts working again.

Makes no sense, the remote is infrared, the speakers are wired. I don't understand why the remote stops working, but fact is that it does.

Well, eat crow time. Seems that Windows Update is not the problem after all. At this point I have two suspects left, 1) the hardware setting for the USB mouse was set to permit it to wake up the system, or 2) the Toshiba installed drivers that allow power to USB ports when the system is turned off. I have disabled both and the problem has gone away (even with Windows Update enabled or disabled). Still trying to figure out which one is the real culprit…

Great news. Received an email from Empower today announcing that a new release of Empower Mail Viewer Pro, 3.0.80.7, fixes this bug!

They instructed users to go to http://ota.getempower.com from the Blackberry to perform the update. I did so, rebooted the Blackberry when prompted, and then was delighted to find that solo attachments are now accessible.

A big thanks to Empower for fixing this.
