Amazon’s Kindle is Hot

Kindle is Hot!

Amazon’s new Kindle is hot! Dedicated book readers are going to love this device to death. Some of the top features of this new device include;

  • An e-ink display that provides a sharp, high-resolution screen that looks and reads like real paper. Easy on the eyes, not at all like reading from a computer screen or PDA.
  • Wireless connectivity using Amazon’s Whispernet.
    • No monthly wireless bills, service plans, or commitments.
    • Uses Sprint’s EVDO Nationwide network for maximum coverage almost everywhere.
    • Buy a book and it is auto-delivered wirelessly in less than one minute.
  • Holds over 200 books, can be expanded with add-on SD card.

Did This Site Move?

Yes, for many years a lot of the content on this site was hosted at geocities.com (I’m leaving the link out since I would love that site to die and go away <g>). In early 2007 I transferred the site to its’ own domain, notsofaqs.com. Hopefully the search engines will eventually sort it all out…. the geocities.com site is no longer being updated and eventually I plan to delete it.

The Spam Fight

Like most, I hate the tons of spam hitting my inbox. I’m sure that a big chunk of the volume can be attributed to the fact that I make my email address available here on these web pages, as well various newsgroups and online communities. I could use throw-away addresses, or take steps to make it harder for the spammers to harvest my address from these pages, but those steps either make my life more complicated or make it harder for people to reach me. My solution, a great new tool, POPFile, by John Graham-Cumming. This delightful open source tool uses Naive Bayes to intelligently filter my incoming spam at an accuracy of 99.6% (my personal rate as of November 23, 2002). I’m using it on two different machines, one using Eudora as the mail client and the other using Outlook. Fantastic results on both setups. I highly recommend it.
